Team project would be recommended but you can do it alone if you have a thorough idea about your topic. Overall this class gets the job done in explaining practical ML. Quiz materials can come from the lectures, the papers, or frankly related sources. It felt like an on campus class unlike other classes I have taken in OMSCS. Pay attention to the assignment write-ups which carry about 30% weight. The amount of effort should be at the level of one homework assignment per group member (1-5 people per group). But they dont go very deep and then later on you are expected to know that lower-level detail on the assignments/quizzes.
